The Marathon Week FKT Challenge

In the fall of 2021 three of the biggest races in the world took place in the streets of Boston, Chicago, and NYC. During the days leading up to these races, these same streets played host to a different kind of race — one that didn’t require a bib or entry fee, but was designed to be every bit as competitive as the main event.

In each city we created a special segment. During the week leading up to the marathon, athletes ran the segment and submitted their times. Full leaderboards can be found below.

Boston Course: The Boston course starts and finishes on the Boston side of the Mass Ave. Bridge. Runners will head east along the river until they hit the Longfellow Bridge, cross the bridge, and turn left onto the bike path on the far side of the river. Runners will proceed on that path back towards the Mass. Ave. Bridge, cross this bridge, and finish where they started.

Chicago Course: The Chicago course starts and finishes on the Riverwalk directly in front of the Northman Bar (near the Columbus Ave. Bridge). Runners will start heading east toward the Lake, make a right at the Lakefront Trail and head south towards Shedd Aquarium. Runners will then proceed to Adler Planetarium, where they loop around the Planetarium, and return back to where they started.

High Line Course: The segment starts and finishes at the top of the stairs at the southern tip of the park (near the corner of Gansevoort and Washington Streets). Follow the path for roughly 1.1 miles until just after it bends to the east (on/above W30th Street). Shortly after that bend you will encounter a construction fence that you can’t pass. Hit the fence with your hand, turn around and proceed back to where you started. The entire run should be roughly 2.2 miles.
