Cross Country in NYC

On November 16 we were lucky to see two super exciting races go down on the new cross country course at Ocean Breeze.

In the women’s 6k, three athletes separated themselves early with Meredith Rizzo (Tracksmith/Idaho Afoot), Veronica Eder (Schuylkill Athletics), and Jeanne Mack (Brooklyn TC) all sharing the lead for portions of the race. Rizzo made a strong move in the final half mile, and crossed the line for the win in 21:11. She was followed by Eder in 2nd (21:20), and Mack rounding out the top three (21:27). Eder's teammates Clarissa Whiting and Shannon McCarthy finished 4th (21:40) and 8th (22:17) to seal the team win over Central Park TC-Tracksmith with a score of 8 to 16 (3 athletes scored).

The Men’s 8k

The men's race was a battle between six athletes as Zachary Hine (Pacers/GRC New Balance), Zachary Ornelas (Ope Athletic Club), Keith Carlson (Pacers/GRC New Balance), Stephen Gomez (Central Park TC-Tracksmith), Ian Ritchie (Central Park TC-Tracksmith) and Galo Vasquez (unattached) all pushed the pace from the front. Ultimately, just like in the women’s race, it came down to the last half mile, with a strong closing Zachary Hine pulling away to take the win in 25:23. Zachary Ornelas crossed the line in second (25:30) and Keith Carlson finished third (25:36). In a much tighter team competition, the Pacers/GRC New Balance took the win with 12 points over Central Park TC-Tracksmith who finished with 16 points. (Note: The 8k course measured closer to 5.1 miles.)
